It’s that time of year again!! Cape Town Cycle Tour is upon us. Mark the date – 10 March 2019 – and as it customary, we will be having our post race party at Cafe Extrablatt in Green Point. All club members are welcome to join us, whether you ride the CTCT or not. However we do need you to RSVP by Wednesday 6 March to ensure your spot.

After months of rain and wet weather, the sun is finally rising at a suitable time, temperatures are much warmer and the spring cycling season is here. For those who have been hibernating through the winter or have just been enjoying some time away from the bike, the club’s road committee would like to welcome you back to the weekend road rides.

TWO START TIMES EVERY SUNDAY IN NOVEMBER.  To help encourage you to climb back on your road bike, the club will offer organized road rides with support vehicles at two different times on Sundays. You choose the start time that suits you.

6:00 – First group ride (all members and all levels of riders are welcome to join at this time).

7:00 – Second group ride (all members and all levels of riders are welcome to join at this time).

Should this initiative prove successful and the rides well attended, this will be carried forward into the holiday period and beyond.

MONTHLY COFFEE RIDES. To further encourage club spirit, the road committee will organize one “coffee and muffin” ride per month going forward. Timing will vary from month to month depending on the racing and fun ride calendar. Sue Kirk is in charge here, so coffee and muffins could mean cappuccino and waffles or even beer and bratwurst. We just ask that you RSVP to notifications so Sue can organise the catering.  We will try and vary the venue and offerings throughout the year so if anyone has suggestions for a new place, please communicate this with Sue who will try and fit it into the schedule.

ROUTE RECOMMENDATIONS? Variety is the spice of life, so if you have a particular route that you would like for a club ride, please tell us. We will try to accommodate recommendations as much as possible. (And that means less work for route master Brian Moore too)

SATURDAY ROAD RIDES. Saturday road rides depart at 6:00. One support vehicle will be provided. All levels of riders are welcome. However, the reality is that few social riders join the Saturday road rides. For those cyclists who want to ride at a social pace on Saturday, we recommend you coordinate with your fellow social riders via the whatsapp groups to ensure you have sufficient company.

VOLUNTEERS WANTED. We need your help in making our club rides a success. If any members are willing to assist and volunteer to be group marshals and or sweepers to look after your fellow riders please do not hesitate to come forward and give us your names.

SOCIAL SUNDAYS AND CLUB SPIRIT. Training for that next big race is important, but the Sunday club rides are also about enjoying a nice social day out on the bike with your fellow club members, regardless of how fast you are riding.Come join us, stop for a coffee and meet your fellow club members.
