Kindly note the following important notices:

  • Trails will only be open to registered riders.
  • We may only ride from first light to sunset. Hence no riding in the dark hours allowed any longer.
  • The special early morning entrance in Bredell road will be closed and as of Monday we will not be allowed to use that entrance. Please use the entrance from Steynsrust road into Eendrag farm to access the trails from Heldervue.
  • No access to Helderberg Farm Trails at this stage.
  • Do not cycle in groups; keep social distancing considerations in mind at all times
  • Parking is now allowed at Somerbosch.
  • Trail running on Somerbosch is now permitted from first light to sunset.
  • Remember to wear a buff or mask over your mouth and nose. It is required by the Level 3 regulations. Carry sanitiser, you may need it.
  • Please do not transgress. Be self-responsible. We do not want to lose this privilege.

Collection of membership packs

Members can collect their membership packs from Heldervue Kwikspar up to Sunday 31 May 2020. We will transfer our collection boxes back to Campus Solutions, situated at Shop 3, Waterstone Village Centre, corner Main Road, and R44, on Monday morning.  As from Monday lunchtime, you can collect your membership packs at Campus Solutions. Please take your collection notice along, even though it might state the collection point at Kwikspar.  You will not be allowed to collect your membership pack without proof of the collection notice sent to you by e-mail.

Day permits

We are now able to sell day permits should your friends would like to make use of our trails. Please use the link on our website to see where you can obtain these. At this stage, the Lord Charles hotel is not able to sell. But, we do have a new vendor.  Specialized Stellenbosch is now also selling day permits. No rider allowed on the trails without a valid MTB board or day permit.

Somerbosch

Parking is now permitted at Somerbosch for those who would like to park and then either cycle or run from their parking lot.  The Bistro will also be able to take orders for coffee and muffins for the riders. They kindly offered to make riders toasted sandwiches. Phone your order in prior to your ride and they will arrange it for you.  Their take out menus are available too.  They will also be selling day permits for running and cycling @ R60 per person per day.

Cycling clothes and equipment

If you have any cycling clothes and/or equipment to spare, please drop it off at Go Cycle at 28 B Caledon Street, Somerset West.  Tom Wittenberg and Clayton Hindle will make sure it gets to our Development Riders.

Covid-19 Rules and Regulations

The Wannabees Trails will be-reopened for exercise, subject to the terms and conditions of the South African Government’s Covid-19 Lockdown Level 4 regulations. Members must adhere to the regulations and be self-responsible in this regard.

Kindly note that the Helderberg Farm Trails are not currently open for cycling.

The following club terms and restrictions will apply during this period:

Only riders with MTB boards will be permitted to make use of the club’s trail infrastructure
The time slot stipulated by the Government’s Level 4 regulations (06:00 to 09:00) implies that athletes will have to conduct part of their exercise routine in the dark. A special trail access corridor has been set up where bike lights will be permitted during the early hours of the morning. This is especially important to avoid annoying landowners and to also reduce the risk of injuries along technical sections in the dark.  New early morning entrance in Bredell road – no access through Eendrag farm during dark hours
No access between Somerset College and Vredenburg farm during dark hours
Do not cycle in groups; keep social distancing considerations in mind at all times
Please remember to wear a Buff or mask over your mouth and nose. It is required by the Level 4 regulations. Carry sanitiser, you may need it.

Landowners terms:

No park and ride will be allowed from Somerbosch Wine Estate
Landowners have advised that athletes loitering on the trails after 09:00 will be chased off their properties
No access through Eendrag during dark hours
No access between Somerset College and Vredenburg farm
No access to Helderberg Farm Trails at this stage
Follow normal trail routes when a bike light is not required

Please covet the access we have been granted. It is not perfect, but it is fragile and can easily be ruined for all by transgressors.
